Comprehensive Voice Instruction
- Individually Tailored
- Comprehensive Approach
- Goal Oriented
Weekly private instruction means you get the individual attention you need to meet your vocal goals.
Unlike coaching, where we have a very specific short-term goal, lessons provide the foundation for building the skills you need to master your long term goals.
From increasing range, flexibility, and strength, becoming a sight-reading master, to learning to accompany yourself while singing, private lessons are where it is at.
Each lesson is tailored to help you grow in the following key areas:
Vocal Register Function
Students learn how both chest and head registers function, as well as how to balance these two registers in a variety of ways to create unique vocal colors (what the industry has termed “mix”).
Body Mapping
The voice and the body are one. By becoming familiar with their own bodies students are able to free both their body and their voice from tension.
Diction
Through diction exercises students learn how to communicate clearly throughout their vocal range, allowing for more powerful story telling and a deeper connection with their audience.
Music Theory
Music is a universal language. By learning the proper terminology and how to read music students are prepared to interact with fellow musicians at all levels.
Sight Singing
,In today’s fast-paced music industry sight singing is an invaluable tool.
Using moveable-do solfege, students learn how to read music without the help of a rehearsal track or piano. This allows students to learn music faster and makes them more confident in a variety of performing situations.
Breath
Through intentional exercises students build strength, flexibility, and control allowing for greater musical expression.
What to Expect During a Lesson
All lessons begin with a physical and vocal warm-up to assess where your body, mind, and voice are in the present moment. From there we work through purposefully chosen vocal exercises to balance and strengthen the voice and breath mechanism. Once the voice and body are fully online we work through sight-singing, ear-training, music theory, diction, and repertoire.
Because lessons are individually tailored to each student’s goals the lesson format will vary from week to week.
For example, when a student has an upcoming performance or audition a larger portion of the lesson time will be dedicated to working on the piece(s) being prepared. Between auditions and performances the lesson may focus more heavily on other goals, such as balancing the register shift from chest to head voice, strengthening sight-singing, or working on the formation of bright and dark vowels.
